BAE Systems is investing in tech startup Oxford Dynamics which was founded in 2020 by Dr Edward Jackson, Shefali Sharma and Mike Lawton, it’s located at the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC)’s Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Harwell, Oxfordshire.
OD is a self-funded, deep-tech start-up developing Agentic AI and embedded intelligence for the space, security and defence sectors. The company secured the first-of-its-kind Enterprise Lite framework contract to supply its technologies to the government and MoD.
BAE Systems’ Prophesea platform
The Phrophesa platform is a digital solution that enables defence organisations to maintain operational readiness of critical assets, such as warships, armoured vehicles and combat aircraft. The first stage of BAE Systems’ and Oxford Dynamics collaboration will embed the Oxfordshire based company’s AI technology into Prophesa.
Oxford Dynamics intelligent autonomous systems are a perfect fit for this platform, their systems are designed to collaboratively interpret data, coordinate action and make real-time decisions. Technology designed to help defence and security organisations improve mission planning and respond to threats faster, with greater precision and in the increasingly complex environments of the modern battlefield.

The long term goal is to ‘deliver sovereign, AI-enabled real time capability’ across BAE Systems’ extensive portfolio. The Prophesa platform is a way of tying together disparate threads of data from curent and legacy systems and apply predictive analytics to maximise investment and facilitate maintenance repairs and upgrades.
